Sorana Cirstea v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, Muchova winning their two previous matches. She triumphed in three sets at the US Open in 2020, and in straight sets in Dubai last month.

Cirstea Knocks Out Garcia Again

Cirstea arrived in Miami in an upbeat mood, after her performance in Indian Wells, where she reached the quarter-finals, her best performance in a WTA 1000 event for six years.

In her first round she played the qualifier Fernanda Contreras Gomez, and, although the Mexican made it difficult for her in the first set, she was able to ease away in the end.

That earned her a re-match with the number four seed, Caroline Garcia of France, one of the women she had beaten in that run in California.

The Romanian took the first set by the scruff of the neck, taking the first five games, before Garcia belatedly made a fight of it, with a hold and then a recovery of one of the breaks. Another break, though, saw Cirstea claim it.

Both players had break point opportunities early in the second set but could not take them. However, then Garcia dropped her serve again, giving Cirstea the chance to serve out, which she duly did.

Her first round opponent, Jil Teichmann of Switzerland, looked tough on paper, but she thrashed the world number 32 for the loss of just two games.

That earned her a match with Lin Zhu of China, the number 32 seed, and it ultimately proved another comfortable outing for the Czech player.

The first set saw the pair swap breaks in the middle of it, before Zhu, serving to stay in it, was broken to love.

The first five games of the second set went with serve, but Zhu then dropped her serve again, and then, once more, to hand victory to Muchova,

Cirstea v Muchova Prediction and Tip

Both women are in good form right now, having each reached the quarter-finals in Indian Wells. But Muchova has won both their previous matches, and, when they played in Dubai last month, defeated the Romanian in straight sets,
