This will be their first tour level meeting. However, they met once at a lower level tournament with Ruusuvuori winning that match in 2020 in Canberra.

Ruusuvuori Upsets 22nd Seed

Emil Ruusuvuori continued his good form in Miami, as he upset the 22nd seed Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets on Friday.

The Finnish player, who had made it to the fourth round in Miami on his debut in 2021, is into the third round of an ATP 1000 tournament for just the third time in his career.

Ruusuvuori, ranked no. 54th in the world, got the solitary break of the first set to take a 1-0 lead.

He, however, found himself 0-2 down in the second set, but came back with a double break only to see Bautista Agut pull the break back to draw level at 3-3. Ruusuvuori saved two set points on his serve at 4-5 and then closed out the match in the tiebreak for a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) victory.

The win improved the Finn’s season record to 10-9 across levels. He had also beaten the world no. 28 Bautista Agut in Indian Wells, before losing in the third round.

Ruusuvuori had begun his Miami Open campaign with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Portuguese qualifier Nuno Borges.

Daniel Stuns Zverev

World no. 97 Taro Daniel continued to impress on the tour as he stunned former world no. 2 Alexander Zverev in the second round on Friday.

The Japanese, who has been mighty impressive over the last two tournaments, bagelled the 13th seed German in the first set. He also got the only break in the second to win the one hour and 16 minute contest 6-0, 6-4.

Daniel did not face a single break point in the match and he converted 4 of the 7 that he held. The error-prone German made 19 unforced errors in the match to just two from Daniel.

Daniel had made it to the second round after his first round opponent Arthur Rinderknech retired while trailing 1-4.

Daniel is now 14-7 for the season, including qualifying matches. He was a quarterfinalist in Acapulco and had made it to the third round in Indian Wells. In both the tournaments he defeated a big player. While it was Casper Ruud in Mexico, he accounted for Matteo Berrettini in Indian Wells.

Ruusuvuori v Daniel Prediction and Tip

This is expected to be an intriguing battle. Ruusvuori is the higher ranked player here, but Daniel has shown better form recently. So it will be a close contest with the Japanese putting up a strong fight, but eventually the Finn should come through in three.
