Mackenzie McDonald is back into the third round in Miami for the second straight year. The world no. 55 upset the 19th seed Matteo Berrettini in two tiebreaks on Saturday.

McDonald saved a set point in the first set tiebreak, before converting his fourth and taking a one-set-to-love lead. Then in the second set, McDonald saved two set points at 5-6, before going on to win the match 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5) in two hours and 18 minutes.

The 27-year-old Ameican had begun the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Daniel Elahi Galán in the first round.

Thanks to the two wins, McDonald improved his season record to 14-7. His bets this year has been a semifinal finish in Delray Beach and he was also a quarterfinalist in Acapulco.

Halys Shocks De Minaur

World no. 79 Quentin Halys saved two match points to shock 15th seed Alex de Minaur on Saturday.

Halys is making his debut in Miami this year and had won his first Masters 1000 match in the first round against Pedro Martínez, when he beat the Spaniard 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).

The Frenchman continued his winning run in the second round, when he rallied from a set down to upset the Australian 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8) in a three-hour-and-20-minute contest.

The match had a nail biting finish with Halys finally holding his nerves and finishing off the contest.

Halys served 21 aces and 57 winners in the match. He also double faulted 10 times and made 45 unforced errors but won the key moments to secure the win.

Most recently, Halys was a semifinalist in the Phoenix Challenger. On the tour he has been a quarterfinalist in Auckland and Montpellier this season.

McDonald v Halys Prediction and Tip

McDonald is the more experienced player at the top level and has been the more consistent of the two at this level. Expect him to edge out Halys and make his fourth round debut in a Masters 1000 tournament.
