Carlos Alcaraz v Tommy Paul Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two players and that came in the Montreal Masters of 2022. Paul had won that in three sets.

Alcaraz Straight-Set Winner over Lajovic

It took Alcaraz a while in the second set but in the end he proved to be too strong for Dusan Lajovic in their third round match.

In an encounter that lasted a touch over an hour and a half, Alcaraz won 6-0, 7-6 (5) with a late revival from Lajovic proving to be not enough to push the match into a decider.

Alcaraz had bagelled his opponent in the first set with three successive breaks of serves and he added a fourth in the second set to go 3-1 up. From there on he held on to his serve till he had a chance to serve out the match at 5-4.

Lajovic found an opening in the 10th game and got the better of the world number one’s serve alright but in the ensuing tie-breaker he failed to find a way past Alcaraz.

This win follows a first round bye and a second round rout of Facundo Bagnis. It was also his eighth win in a row and 16th of the season to go with a mere one defeat.

Paul Brushes Fokina Aside

Having scraped through his second round match against Marc-Andrea Huesler, Paul found his bearings in the third round where he eased past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina to make it to the fourth.

Paul was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Fokina in a match that went on for an hour and 34 minutes and which had both players lose their serve at least one in both sets.

It was Paul’s solidity off his second serves too that gave him the edge with the American winning 72% of those points as compared to a mere 39% that Fokina did.

Having reached the final of the Acapulco Open earlier this season, and ending as a semifinalist at the Australian Open, Paul had broken into the top 20 for the first time in his career. Even a loss here would help him climb up a spot to earn his career-best ranking of 18th.

The trouble for Paul is winning against Alcaraz is becoming more and more difficult for opponents. He will need to invoke something special here.

Alcaraz v Paul Prediction and Tip

Alcaraz might face a worthy challenger in the form of Paul here but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be up for it. Expecting a win and a straight-set one at that too.
