Sorana Cirstea is making her 12th appearance in the main draw in Miami, but it is only the second time that the Romanian has found a way to the fourth round of the tournament.
Cirstea ousted Karolina Muchova in the third round on Sunday to match her previous best, which she achieved in 2013.
Cirstea had to bounce back from a break down on two occasions in the first set, before she raced to opening set win by winning the last four games in a row. With the first set in the bag, the 32-year-old took complete control of the match and ousted the world no. 55 Muchova 7-5, 6-1.
Cirstea had also won her first two matches in straight sets, beating Fernanda Contreras Gomez 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 in the first round and then upsetting the fifth seed Caroline Garcia 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.
The Romanian had also beaten Garcia en route the quarterfinals in Indian Wells. Overall she is 11-7 in 2023. She had a pretty ordinary start to the season but found form in Indian Wells. Can she reach back-to-back quarterfinals with a win on Monday?

Vondrousova Takes Down Another Seed
2019 quarterfinalist Marketa Vondrousova defeated a second seeded player in a row to reach the round of 16 on Sunday.
Vondrousova, who had begun her campaign with a 6-4, 6-1 drubbing of Tatjana Maria, had knocked out 11th seed Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 6-2 in the second round.
On Sunday, the left-handed Czech ousted compatriot and former finalist Karolina Pliskova in straight sets. The World no. 103 needed just 53 minutes to dispatch the 17th seed 6-1, 6-2.
Vondrousova converted 6 of 8 break points and saved 4 of 6 to race to victory.
Vondrousova improved her season record to 13-5. She was a semifinalist in Linz, a quarterfinalist in Adelaide and made it to the fourth round in Indian Wells. Can she reach a third quarterfinal of the season with a win on Monday?
