Botic van de Zandschulp v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head

They are 1-1 from their two meetings, both were on grass last year with Ruusuvuori winning in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Van de Zandschulp winning at Wimbledon.

Van de Zandschulp Rebounds to Beat Ruud

For the second straight round, Botic van de Zandschulp rebounded after losing the first set to advance in Miami.

The 26th seed, who had scored a comeback win over Alexei Popyrin in the second round, needed two hours and 52 minutes to edge out the third seed Ruud 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Ruud had 15 chances to break the Dutchman, but the latter saved 13 of those, allowing the Norwegian to break only on two occasions. Van de Zandschulp meanwhile converted half of the six break points that he held.

This is just the third time this season that the world no. 32 Van de Zandschulp has won two matches in a row. He had done that in Pune, where he was a semifinalist and in Dubai, where he made the last eight.

The win over the world no. 4 was his fifth top 10 victory and a second over Ruud. This is just the second time he is playing in Miami, following a first round exit last year.

Van de Zandschulp has never gone past the third round in a Masters 1000 tournament. Now, the 27-year-old has a chance of reaching his first Masters quarterfinal.

Ruusuvuori Holds Off In-Form Daniel

Emil Ruusuvuori moved into the round of 16 for the second time in Miami as he stopped Taro Daniel in the third round on Sunday.

The world no. 54 was down a break early in the first set but he bounced back with a double break to take a 1-0 lead. In the second, both did a good job of not conceding a break but in the end it was the Finn, who raced away with the match by dominating the second set tiebreak.

Ruusuvuori won the one hour and 45 minute contest 6-3, 7-6 (7-3). He is yet to drop a set in the tournament.

Ruusuvuori had begun his campaign with an easy 6-1, 6-4 win over Nuno Borges. He then took down the 22nd seed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

Ruusuvuori wasn’t in the best of forms in the first two months, but a run to the third round in Indian Wells would have given him some confidence and he has carried that form to Miami. Can he reach his first quarterfinal of the season with a win on Tuesday?

Van de Zandschulp v Ruusuvuori Prediction and Tip

Although they are 1-1 head-to-head, Van de Zandschulp is the superior player in this contest. He has been a consistent performer over the last one year and has a better record on the tour.
