Diego Schwartzman v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

It’s probably been the worst start to the season for Schwartzman from recent memory. Renowned for his performances on clay, Schwartzman has stumbled on both, the red dirt and in hardcourt competitions throughout 2023.
It started with a first and second round exit at Auckland and Australian Open but what made it worse for the Argentine was his run at the South American swing. He featured in all the four tournaments which were on show and fell in the first round at each one of them.
The former top 10 player then won a match at both, the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open but couldn’t do too much more than that.
Schwartzman, who has won just three matches from the 12 he’s played so far this season, now returns to clay in the hope he can make a better fist of things this time around.

Cecchinato’s Had His Own Struggles
While Cecchinato’s not as high-ranked as Schwartzman he has had his own struggles which have seen him hardly win a main draw match this season.
The former world number 16, who has fallen to 95th in the world at the moment, is on a three-match losing streak. Making it worse is two of those three defeats have come in the first rounds of Challenger tournaments.
Overall this season, Cecchinato has won just three matches. Those came in the first round of the Pune Open, Cordoba Open and Santiago Open.
The good news for Cecchinato is despite the obvious difference in their rankings, the 30-year-old will be going up against a player who hasn’t won a match on clay this season. This could well be his chance to make it a fourth win of the year.

It’s a battle between two clay-courters and two struggling ones at that. Schwartzman might hold the bookmaker’s edge here but expecting Cecchinato to make it very difficult for him.
