Jaume Munar v Elliot Benchetrit Head to Head

They have faced off twice on the Challenger circuit and Munar won it both times.

Munar Resumes Clay Court Action

In a season which has seen Munar win absolutely nothing in hardcourt competitions, the clay court season will come as a blessing. At the same time, the pressure will be on Munar to perform to the best of his capabilities in these tournaments.

This can be seen from the manner in which Munar capitulated in the first round of all the three tournaments he played on hardcourt to kick his season off.

He would later return at the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters and fall at the first hurdle at both, again, leaving him with a lot of work to do on clay.

Munar did make the semifinals of the Santiago Open during the South American swing. He had also won his opener at Cordoba, leaving him with a 4-3 win-loss record on clay before the Girona Challenger he participated in last week.

A quarterfinalist in that clay court competition, Munar will hope he can continue with that run here in Marrakesh.

Benchetrit Enters as a Wildcard

With a string of under-par results over the last few seasons, Benchetrit has fallen to outside the top 440 on the ATP Rankings having touched a career-high of 198th at one point.

The Moroccan player is now relegated to playing Futures competitions with the odd Challenger match here and there. And while he does prefer his time on clay, this year Benchetrit’s best performances came in hardcourt competitions. He won a title in January on the Futures circuit.

Benchetrit hasn’t had the same fortune on the Challenger circuit with a first round loss at the Szekesfehervar Challenger and another in the qualifiers of the San Remo Challenger.

And now up against a player who has done fairly well on clay in comparison, things could rather difficult for the world number 442.

Munar v Benchetrit Prediction and Tip

Munar should not have a lot of problems here despite the partisan home support that Benchetrit might get in Marrakesh. Expect a straight-set win for Munar.
