Rafael Nadal v Jared Donaldson Head to Head

There has been just one match between these players before this and surely enough Nadal came away a winner, having registered a 6-2, 6-1 win over Donaldson in a 2017 Shanghai Masters match.

Nadal to Shrug off Kyrgios Defeat

Other than an exhibition match that Nadal participated in early in the year, he’s featured in two main tournaments – the Australian Open and the Acapulco Open. At the Australian Open, he was returning from his injury woes and there was that worry around his fitness.

Nadal looked to have allayed those fears rather well, playing with aplomb and winning matches with precision. He hadn’t dropped a set till he reached the final, and taken to just one tie-breaker but then that title-decider against Novak Djokovic happened.

It turned out to be Nadal’s worst Grand Slam final defeat, with the Spaniard managing to garner just eight games – a bitter-sweet tournament in the end.

Then, the expectation out of him was another solid showing at the Acapulco Open but a shock loss at the hands of Nick Kyrgios followed. He looked like he was on the verge of winning it with the Aussie struggling with his rhythm and fitness but things turned around and Nadal was unable to sustain the pressure.

Interesting times ahead of him.

Wildcard Entrant Jared Donaldson to Pose No Threat

22-year-old Donaldson has a career-high ranking of 48 having made it there in 2017 but a knee injury took the sheen off his career and his ranking has nearly plumetted now to nearly 200th in the world.

His start to the season hasn’t been great either, losing both his singles matches he played before the start of this tournament – going down in the first round at the Delray Beach Open and second round at the Indian Wells Challenger before this.

Which is why his victory over Tatsuma Ito in the opening round here would have given some confidence for the rest of the year but against Nadal, it would be a bridge too far.

Rafael Nadal v Jared Donaldson Tips & Predictions

Nadal is 1/12 to win this one, an overwhelming favourite as expected but we also think he will make quick work of Donaldso in this one. Straight set win and with minimal games dropped.
