Serena Williams v Garbine Muguruza Head to Head

The two players have met five times on the tour so far and Williams presently leads the Spaniard by 3-2. All of their meetings have been in Grand Slams, with their last one taking place in the final of the 2016 French Open.

Muguruza won that match in straight sets.

Muguruza Off to a Good Start

Number 20 seed Muguruza started her campaign in Indian Wells with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat over Lauren Davis in the second round. Presently ranked at the 20th position on the WTA Tour, the Spaniard has been struggling with her form over the last year or so.

As for this season, she started it on a rather mediocre note with an early defeat in Sydney and a fourth-round loss to Karolina Pliskova in the Australian Open.

She was also a quarterfinalist in the Hua Hin Championships and followed that run with a third round appearance in Dubai. She hasn’t won a title since the Monterrey Open 2018.

Williams Solves Azarenka Riddle

Williams, who is participating in her first tournament since the Australian Open, had to start her run in Indian Wells against her old nemesis Victoria Azarenka. It was a brilliant clash that saw the American come out on the top with a 7-5, 6-3 win.

Serena has a total of 72 titles to her name, including the Indian Wells Open that she has won twice. The World No. 10 isn’t as active as other players on the tour, but her massive experience and an exceptional skill set do the job for her.

Last season, she was the runner-up at the Wimbledon and US Open – a feat she achieved after taking a break from the tour due to pregnancy.

Serena Williams v Garbine Muguruza Tips & Predictions

Williams has a powerful game with a very strong serve. Muguruza, on the other hand, is quite agile and has defeated the American a couple of times in the past. This fixture can go either way but Serena will start as the favourite here.

Tip: Total sets over 2.5: 6/4 (Unibet)
