Lorenzo Musetti v Hugo Gaston Head to Head
They haven’t faced off at the highest level but did play a match in the qualifiers of the Paris Masters in 2021 which Gaston won. Later that season they met again in the ATP Next Gen Finals and Musetti had emerged a winner.

Musetti’s strong performances against, arguably, a second rung of players at the United Cup helped Italy make the final of that tournament earlier this year. He won four matches in a row there before losing to Frances Tiafoe in their final against the USA.
That was followed by six defeats from seven matches for Musetti whose only other win since came in the Argentina Open where he overcame the local lad Pedro Cachin in the first round. He has lost five in a row since that victory.
Making it worse is the fact that Musetti has now lost 10 sets in a row without winning one in return.
Seeded at the Santiago Open, Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters, Musetti had second round byes at all three of them but failed to move past the likes of Jaume Munar, Adrian Mannarino and Jiri Lehecka.

Gaston Holds off Struff
Jan-Lennard Struff was 1/2 favourite going into his opening round match here against Gaston and for a while it looked like he was living up to those odds too.
Fortunately for Gaston, he managed to find himself an opening in the second set and widened the gap as the match went along to win it in three. In an encounter lasting two hours and seven minutes, Gaston clinched a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory to clinch his first main draw win of the season.
Gaston had entered the tournament on the back of some good form too, having reached the final of the Vina del Mar Challenger competition in March. Two breaks of serves in the first looked to have pushed that Challenger result out of his mind but Gaston slowly clawed back with a break off the only break-point he got in the second set.
In the third, Gaston looked to be in a better control of things but only found a way past Struff’s serve in the 11th game. He then served it out to seal his second round berth.
Musetti v Gaston Prediction and Tip
Musetti might be a 11/20 favourite according to bookmakers but given all that has transpired this season, we can barely count on him to clinch this. A tough battle might ensue that sees Gaston winning at least a set.
