Papamichail Looking for First Win in Bogota

Despina Papamichail is 11-10 across levels this year and 1-3 at the tour level. Her only tour level win came at the United Cup, where she had a 1-2 record. In addition to that she reached just one main draw at the tour level and that was in Monterrey, but she was beaten in the first round.

Papamichail failed to go past the qualifiers at the Australian Open and in Merida. The 30-year-old however did well in a couple of ITF tournaments, reaching the semifinals at the ITF Mexico City and the quarterfinals in ITF Mexico City 2.

This is the second time she will be playing in Bogota. Last year, she was knocked out in the opening round.

The Greek player is a 15-time winner from 23 finals at the ITF level. She has been at her best on clay courts and 10 of her 15 titles have come on the surface.

Most recently, she played at the WTA 125 in San Luis Potosi, but was sent packing in the first round. Can she start with a win in Bogota?

Brancaccio Qualifies for the Main Draw

Nuria Brancaccio made it to the main draw with a three-set win over Fernanda Contreras Gomez in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

A clay court specialist, the Italian had earlier beaten Colombia’s Valentina Mediorreal Arias 6-0, 6-2 in the first qualifying round.

Brancaccio, who will be playing in the main draw of a tour level event for the first time this year, has been in excellent form in 2023. She has only played on clay courts this season and has a 15-5 season record.

The 22-year-old won an ITF title in Buenos Aires and finished runner-up in Buenos Aires 2. She was also a quarterfinalist in Sopo, Colombia last week.

Last year, Brancaccio had reached her maiden WTA 125 final in Bari, but finished runner-up to Julia Grabher.

Papamichail v Brancaccio Prediction and Tip

Papamichail has more experience playing at the top level, but Brancaccio is in excellent form this year and has played all 20 of her matches on clay. So Brancaccio has slight advantage against the Greek, who has played just one match on clay this year. It will be a close contest, with the Italian expected to edge through.
