Daria Kasatkina v Madison Brengle Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two and it came at the 2017 Tokyo Open with Kasatkina winning in three.

Kasatkina Struggling Since Adelaide Final

With wins over Barbora Krejcikova and Petra Kvitova, Kasatkina seemed to have made an excellent start to the season as she cruised to the final of the Adelaide International 2. Since then, however, things haven’t looked as rosy for the Russian whose form seems to have fallen away drastically.

While Kasatkina is still ranked eighth in the world – her career-best ranking – her recent win-loss record reads a rather abysmal 3-7. This consists of defeats to some of the trickier players in the world at the moment but at the same time some she would have expected to overcome.

The good news for Kasatkina is she isn’t averse to playing on clay unlike some of the other top players.

Last season itself, the Russian had made it to the semifinal of the French Open where she finally fell to Iga Swiatek but till that time she hadn’t lost a set. Even in the lead-up to that showing at Roland-Garros, Kasatkina was a semifinalist at the Italian Open.

And having won the title in Charleston in 2017, it isn’t much of a surprise that her poor form recently hasn’t stopped bookmakers from strapping her as a heavy favourite here.

Brengle Goes Past Kanepi

Experienced player Kaia Kanepi was a 1/2 favourite entering into her opening round match against Brengle but fell to a straight-set loss at the hands of her American opponent.

Brengle was on court for an hour and 23 minutes to win 6-3, 6-4 in what was just her fifth main draw victory of the season.

Serving was an issue for both players with Brengle herself dropping her own serve three times in the encounter. She retaliated with five breaks of serves from the nine chances she got.

In the first set, Brengle came back from a break down to clinch it while in the second she was two breaks up but had lost the advantage by the sixth game. She broke again in the seventh and closed out the match soon after to grab her first second round berth here in six attempts.

Kasatkina v Brengle Prediction and Tip

Kasatkina’s clay court credentials should help her carve out a nice little win here and help her progress to round two. Could see her with a straight-set win.
