Coric Looking to Regain Last Season’s Form

World no. 20 Borna Coric comes into the tournament on the back of three consecutive defeats.

The Croatian, who was in fine form last year, has not been able to match that this year. Coric had won the Cincinnati Masters title (his first title since 2018) and had finished the season on a strong note.

This year, he has reached two quarterfinals and has also won matches in team events but a brings a 7-7 record into the tournament.

Since losing in the last eight stage in Dubai, Coric lost his second round matches in Indian Wells and Miami. He had an opening round bye in both those tournaments.

Coric’s other quarterfinal appearance this year came in Montpellier, where he had won just one match to reach the last eight.

In Monte Carlo, the Croatian will make his seventh appearance. Only once has he reached the last eight stage in the tournament and that was in 2019. a He has lost in the first round four times and once in the second round.

Jarry Making His Debut

Nicolas Jarry is in excellent form this season, particularly on his favourite surface — the clay. The world no. 59 won his second tour level title at the Santiago Open by beating Tomás Martín Etcheverry in the final.

Jarry had also made it to the semifinals in Rio after qualifying for the main draw. his run eventually ended with a three-set defeat to Carlos Alcaraz.

The Chilean has reached four finals at the ATP level and won two of them over his career. All four of those finals have come on clay.

Jarry is 10-3 on the surface this year and that includes qualifying matches. He lost in the first round of his most recent clay court tournament though, falling to Andrea Vavassori in Marrakech this week.

Making his debut in Monte-Carlo, Jarry will hope to get off to a winning start.

Coric v Jarry Prediction and Tip

Jarry has played plenty of matches on clay this season and has succeeded in winning most of them. His career record clearly suggests that he is at his best on dirt and will be the favourite in the opener against Coric, who plays for the first time on clay this year.
