Jiri Lehecka v Gael Monfils Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between Lehecka and Monfils.

Lehecka Converts Form to Clay

It has been a standout season for Lehecka so far with the Czech having reached his career-best ranking of 37 to go with his quarterfinal appearance at the Australian Open.

And while Lehecka hasn’t quite replicated his performance from Melbourne, he has done enough to prove he has the potential to earn himself a higher spot than his current ranking.

What’s been more interesting is his performance on clay. Lehecka, who has been known for his performances on the quicker hardcourts, registered back to back wins in Monte-Carlo to reach the third round there.

The world number 42 overcame Emil Ruusuvuori in the first round there and then defeated Grigor Dimitrov in the second before Taylor Fritz got the better of him in the round of 16. Can he now take down the former world number six?

Monfils Hoping to Turn Things Around

While Monfils has done quite well in hardcourt competitions, winning all 10 of his 11 highest career titles on that surface, he is no pushover on clay either.

This can be seen from his record on dirt, with one of his three Masters 1000 tournament finals having come at the Monte-Carlo competition. That was in 2016, the last time he featured in a tournament there.

He could have participated in this year’s Monte-Carlo Masters given Monfils is in a desperate need to improve upon his ranking points, having fallen outside the top 300 because of his fitness concerns and absence because of that.

But that was exactly the reason why he failed to make the Monte-Carlo Masters either, failing to recover in the time from the wrist injury he had suffered in Miami in March.

Monfils looks to have regained his fitness but expecting him to trouble a player in form and with younger legs than himself could be a bridge too far for him at the moment.

Lehecka v Monfils Prediction and Tip

Lehecka is a heavy favourite here and we will have to go with his win and in straight sets.
