Richard Gasquet v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and both have won one apiece. Gasquet won at the 2021 ATP Dubai while Cecchinato responded with a victory on the clay courts of Bastad that very season.

Gasquet Struggles Extend to Clay

It looked like it was going to be a solid season for Gasquet when he kick-started the year with a title win at the Auckland Open. He had overcome Cameron Norrie in the final there, making the win extra special.

Since then, however, Gasquet’s form has gone for a toss and he has barely won anything.

In the eight top-level ATP tournaments that the Frenchman has featured in since then he has won just three matches. He also took part at the Phoenix Challenger and won a round there before going down in the second.

Making it worse is Gasquet’s not too fond of clay and that has shown up in recent times despite his overall record. This year itself he has played two and lost both his matches in clay-court competitions, losing in the openers of Marrakesh and Monte-Carlo.

Can he turn things around against a dirtballer?

Cecchinato Makes Estoril Semifinal

More known for his aptitude on clay, Cecchinato had participated in three ATP tournaments during the South American Swing but failed to do too much of note there. Second round defeats at the Cordoba and Santiago Open and a qualifying loss in Buenos Aires looked to have pushed him down.

Cecchinato then opted to feature on the Challenger tour in March, foregoing the chance to playing in the qualifiers of the Sunshine Masters – only to lose in the first round at both.

It was only in Estoril that Cecchinato found his rhythm and went deep into the tournament.

Not just that he made the semifinal, Cecchinato also overcame the likes of Diego Schwartzman, Fabio Fognini and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on his way there, before Miomir Kecmanovic got the better of him.

He will hold an advantage here given his own preferences for clay and his opponent’s issues on it.

Gasquet v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip

Given the two players’ form and Cecchinato’s love for dirt, we will be backing him to win this. Might go into a third set though.
