Sebastian Baez v Oscar Otte Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came in the 2022 Lyon Open – on clay – and Baez had won that in three sets.

Baez 10-5 on Clay This Season

Despite a shock loss in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Masters, Baez has won 10 of the 15 matches he’s played this season on clay and that’s a fair record to have for a player who has never been ranked in the top 30.

That said, Baez has slowly moved up the rankings and was 31st earlier this season (now a spot lower). Which means a good showing or two at this tournament or one of the two remaining clay-court Masters could mean he breaks into the top 30.

Which is also why his first round loss at Monte-Carlo to Jack Draper would have thrown him off a tad.

Coming up against the 33/20 underdog Draper, Baez was sent packing in straight sets in that opener. The Cordoba Open winner will hope to turn things around here.

Otte Has Just Three Wins in 2023

Having risen to 36th in the world last season, Otte’s record has been blemished by poor form through the second half of the previous season and the start of this.

In fact spread over 11 tournaments that Otte has played in 2023, he has won just three matches in the main draw of those events. This includes defeats in the Davis Cup and Phoenix Challenger and qualifying defeats at two of them.

The second of those qualifier losses came at the Monte-Carlo Masters last week where he managed to surprise Pedro Martinez in the first round there but failed to make the main draw when he fell to Luca Nardi.

Can he now raise his game enough to improve on his overall clay court record of 7-9?

Baez v Otte Prediction and Tip

Baez is a heavy favourite here and unless he stumbles early, we are looking at a quick-fire win for him here.
