Cori Gauff v Veronika Kudermetova Head to Head
They have faced off once before this with Kudermetova having blasted past Gauff in Doha earlier this year.

Gauff has had a steady year so far in hardcourt competitions but one where she would have expected a lot more. On the one hand, a 15-5 win-loss record for the season would read solidly for most players but on the other, the expectations from Gauff to be the next big thing tempers that down a tad.
Especially after the kind of start she had made to the season whereby she had won her first eight matches in a row she played this year.
Since then, a fourth round loss at the Australian Open, and relatively early exits at Doha and Miami have left her with some thinking to do. The bad news for Gauff has been some of her opponents have been able to out-hit her in matches and she will need to work her way through that.
The good news, however, is on clay, she has an even better game and it might not be very easy to do the aforementioned to her. Which is why she will have a better chance and will hope to get back to her previous career-best ranking of fourth in the world.

Kudermetova on a Three-Match Losing Streak
Having reached a career-best ranking of 13th in the world, Kudermetova has fallen four places in recent times and that has been down to her struggles in the previous four tournaments since making the semifinal of WTA Doha.
It was in Doha itself that Kudermetova looked to be flying high with her win over Gauff in their maiden meeting but in the six matches that have followed, the Russian has won just one.
Defeats to Iga Swiatek, Anhelina Kalinina, Karolina Pliskova and Marketa Vondrousova would all have been tough to take but to make matters worse, Kudermetova fell in her opener at Charleston too. And this time that loss came at the hands of Diana Shnaider, who was 13/5 odds to win that match.
Making matters worse is Kudermetova now faces an opponent of the calibre of Gauff in the very first round after missing out on getting seeded.
Another loss could be incoming unless Kudermetova can turn things around drastically on a surface she isn’t particularly fond of.
