Cristina Bucsa v Tamara Korpatsch Head to Head

No previous meetings have come on the WTA circuit. ITF tournaments have yielded two wins for Bucsa and one for Korpatsch. On clay, Korpatsch had defeated Bucsa in 2022.

Bucsa Scrapes Past Volynets in the Qualifiers

After having made the second round of the qualifiers here with an easy win over Noma Noha Akugue, Bucsa was taken to the distance by Katie Volynets in the second.

In a match lasting over three hours, Bucsa came back from 5-1 down in the first set to win it, failed to serve for the match in the second before saving two match-points in the third. She won 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2) to reach the main draw for the fourth time this season.

At Charleston earlier this month, Bucsa had won her first round match against Marie Bouzkova in a surprise result where she had gone into the match as an 8/5 underdog.

Bucsa was also an Australian Open qualifier where she made the third round with a win over Bianca Andreescu helping her as well.

As a result, Bucsa will kick-start her campaign ranked a career-best of 77th in the world.

Korpatsch Wins First Couple of Matches in 2023

She had featured in nine tournaments before this which included qualifiers, ITF competitions and main draw encounters at the highest level. Korpatsch had won none of those nine. In five of those matches, she had fallen to straight-set losses.

Which is why despite coming up against the 334th-ranked Kathinka Von Deichmann, Korpatsch was a mere 2/5 favourite in her opener.

She won that in straight sets before taking out Alycia Parks in the second qualifier, also in straight sets. This time around she had gone into the encounter at 8/11 odds.

Against the in-form Bucsa, however, things could be a lot different with Korpatsch needing to start things off the manner she had done against those two qualifying opponents.

Bucsa v Korpatsch Prediction and Tip

Bucsa starts off a favourite and at 4/6 we think those are tempting odds to go with. Could be a fighting encounter though.
