Ekaterina Alexandrova v Donna Vekic Head to Head

The tally is 1-1 at the moment; Alexandrova got the last laugh when they met in the 2020 St. Petersburg Open.

Alexandrova in Good Form

World No. 18 Ekaterina Alexandrova is finding what it is like to be in the top 20 for the first time in her career.

Although she started the year on a bleak note with early exits in the Australian Open swing (best result round three in Melbourne), she picked up the pace recently in the United States. The Russian is now 9-7, set to start in Stuttgart with some momentum.

Her last appearance was in Charleston where she fell to Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinal. Before that, Alexandrova reached the same stage in the Miami Open, where she dismissed Belinda Bencic and Bianca Andreescu before losing to the eventual champion Petra Kvitova.

Ekaterina has not reached a WTA final on clay yet, but that is certainly not due to her lack of skills. Last year, she was a semifinalist in the Madrid Open – alongside winning the titles in Den Bosch and Seoul.

Vekic Enjoying Resurgence

World No. 23 Donna Vekic is having herself a moment after spending the last couple of seasons battling form and injury woes. The Croat is now 15-4, armed with a title from Monterrey and quarterfinal showings in the Aus Open and Linz Open.

Her time in the US swing was not that eventful, however, as she lost early in Indian Wells and Miami.

Nonetheless, as a former #19 player with a powerful service game and 11 WTA career finals, Vekic is a force to be reckoned with. The 26-year-old has also played her fair share of top 10 players and enjoyed some success in the process.

On clay, Donna is yet to emulate such results as last year, she closed the swing 7-6.

Vekic v Alexnadrova Prediction and Tip

This should be a good one. Vekic is in a better form overall and given her superior pedigree, she is the odds-on favourite here. She will, however, need much more than that to successfully surpass Alexandrova, who is packing a punch or two herself.
