Daniel Altmaier v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

Altmaier won their only meeting at a lower level tournament in Como in 2019.

Altmaier Wins Sarasota Challenger

Daniel Altmaier has been handed a wild card for the Munich Open and the German would go into the tournament on the back of five match winning streak on clay.

Altmaier defeated Daniel Elahi Galán in the final of the Sarasota Challenger on Sunday to pick up his seventh Challenger title. Last year he had reached four Challenger finals and he had won three of them. Six of his seven Challenger titles have come on clay.

The 24-year-old is however 1-7 in the main draws on the tour this year, but overall he has a 12-10 record this year, which includes two Challenger quarterfinals in addition to the Sarasota title.

As a result of his title success on Sunday, Altmaier will move up 20 places to no. 93 in the world.

He will be making his second appearance in Munich. He won one and lost one last year on his debut.

Karatsev Eases Into the Main Draw

Aslan Karatsev qualified for the Munich Open with a straight sets win over Germany’s Louis Wessels in the second qualifying round on Sunday.

The Russian did not face a break point in the match and he converted 4 of 11 break points for a 6-2, 6-2 victory.

The former world no. 14 had beaten Robin Haase 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 in the first qualifying round.

Things have been difficult for Karatsev this season. The 29-year-old reached the semifinals of the season opener in Pune. But since then, he has played in six tournaments and lost in the first round of each of them. One of those six tournaments was the San Remo Challenger, the rest were all tour level tournaments.

Karatsev is 7-7 across levels this year and has seen a steady decline in his rankings this year. Can he arrest the slide and turn things around in Munich?

Altmaier v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

On current form, Altmaier is the favourite to win this contest. He is also the local boy and that should give him an edge as well.
