Struff In Top Form

Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff will be high on confidence following his quarterfinal finish at the Monte-Carlo Masters this week.

Struff, who qualified for the main draw of the ATP 1000 tournament, defeated 14th seed Alex de Minaur and fourth seed Casper Ruud in the second and third rounds respectively to reach his second Masters 1000 quarterfinal. But he failed to make the semifinals after going down to eventual champion Andrey Rublev.

It was the third consecutive Masters 100 tournament that Struff had qualified for. He reached the second rounds of the Indian Wells and Miami Opens after qualifying for both the events.

The 32-year-old will move into the top 65 in the world following his Monte Carlo performance.

He has a 27-10 overall record, across levels, this season. He reached three semifinals at the Challenger level. He will be looking for a deep run in Munich, where he has a 12-7 record. He was a finalist in the tournament in his last appearance in 2021, but he couldn’t win the title, going don to Nikoloz Basilashvili in the final.

Struff also has one semifinal finish and two quarterfinal finishes in the tournament.

A Walkover Helps Ritschard to Reach Main Draw

Alexander Ritschard is set to play his second tour-level tournament of the season in Munich. The Swiss made it to the main draw after his second qualifying round opponent Riccardo Bonadio pulled out of the tournament before the start of the match.

World no. 205 Ritschard had won his first qualifying round match against Alexey Vatutin in three sets. After losing the first set to the Russian, Ritschard came back to win the next two and seal the first qualifier.

Ritschard had also qualified for the main draw in Marseille, where he won his first round match before falling in the second round.

Ritschard is 7-10 across levels this season and is yet to win consecutive main draw matches this year. It will be an uphill task for the Swiss in the Munich opener.

Struff v Ritschard Prediction and Tip

Struff is a heavy favourite in this contest. He is not only a vastly experienced player, he also has a very good record in Munich and is in brilliant form at the moment. Expect him to ease past the Swiss.
