This will be their first tour level meeting. Ramos-Vinolas won their only previous meeting at a lower level event nine years ago in Panama.

Ramos Vinolas on a Six-Match Losing Streak

The going has been tough for the 35-year-old Albert Ramos-Vinolas this season. The Spaniard will be making his 13th appearance in Barcelona, bringing a 4-12 season record into the tournament.

Ramos-Vinolas has won matches in just two tournaments this year, and is currently on a six match losing streak. The lefty’s four wins this season came during the South American clay swing. Ramos Vinolas reached the semifinals in Cordoba and the quarterfinals in Rio.

Ever since losing the quarterfinal in Rio to Bernabe Zapata Miralles, Ramos-Vinolas has lost five first round matches, including the one last week to Jan-Lennard Sruff in Monte-Carlo.

Ramos-Vinolas has a 16-12 record in Barcelona. The clay-court specialist, who is a four-time champion on the tour from 11 finals, has been a two-time quarterfinalist in Barcelona. Last year, he was knocked out in the second round.

Gomez, Too, Has Lost the Last Six

Like Ramos Vinolas, Emilio Gomez too has been struggling this season and the Ecuadorean is also on a six-match losing streak. The only difference is that most of Gomez’s recent defeats have come in lower level tournaments.

The 31-year-old, who was a quarterfinalist in Dallas this season, wil be making his first appearance in Barcelona.

Gomez is 8-11 across levels this year. In addition to his solid performance in Dallas he was also a semifinalist in Cleveland Challenger. Apart from those performances, there is very little success that Gomez has had this season. In his two clay court tournaments this year, Gomez lost to Marcos Giron in the first round in Houston and fell in the first round of the Sarasota Challeneger to Mitchell Krueger.

After briefly breaking into the top 100 and reaching a career-high of no. 90 following his first-ever ATP quarterfinal appearance (in Dallas), he has fallen out of the top 100 once again. Currently ranked no. 121, Gomez may continue to struggle in Barcelona.

Ramos Vinolas v Gomez Prediction and Tip

Although he is struggling in recent times, Ramos-Vinolas is a quality player and has been a regular in Barcelona for over a decade. He will be hoping to get off to a quick start and then build from there on.
