Cachin Finishes Runner-up in Madrid Challenger

After an ordinary start to the season, Pedro Cachin has finally found form over the last couple of weeks. The Argentine was off to a 2-10 start, won two matches at the Girona Challenger to reach the first quarterfinal of the year.

He then won his third tour level main draw match in Estoril before going on to reach the final of the Madrid Challenger last week.

Cachin won the first three matches in three sets, then he ousted fellow Argentine Andrea Collarini in straight sets in the semifinal, but could not go on to win his seventh Challenger tour title as he lost the final to Alexander Shevchenko 4-6, 3-6.

Despite the defeat in his 10th Challenger final, Cachin will be happy to be back in form. He is 9-13 across levels this year and 3-11 on the tour.

The 28-year-old will be hoping to get his first win in Barcelona. He lost in the first round in his only main draw appearance in 2016.

Brouwer Reached Maiden Semifinal in Houston

Gijs Brouwer has found a bit of success at the tour level this season and a 6-3 record is a reflection of that.

The Dutch player had made it to the quarterfinals in Rotterdam by beating Holger Rune in the round fo 16. He also reached the semifinals in Houston by defeating JOhn Isner and JJ Wold en route.

Brouwer, who also reached the second round in Marseille after coming through the qualifiers, is 10-12 so far this season.

A finalist in the Tunisia Challenger last year, the left-handed Brouwer has a decent record on clay courts. He is 3-2 overall on clay this year. He lost in the opening round of the Sarasota Challenger last week to Tomas Machac.

It will be interesting to see of Brouwer, who reached his first ever ATP semifinal and also got his maiden top 10 win this year, can make an early impact in Munich.

Cachin v Brouwer Prediction and Tip

Following a run to the final at the Madrid Challenger, Cachin will be full of confidence and that should help him in the opener against the Dutchman. This should be a close contest though as Brouwer too has displayed good form on the tour this year. However, Cachin is a vastly experienced clay court campaigner and is expected to come out on top.
