Anastasia Potapova v Petra Martic Head to Head

Potapova leads 2-1, beating Martic as recently as the Linz Open Final 2023 in straight sets.

Potapova Fielding Confidence

Anastasia Potapova is having quite a season. The 22-year-old Russian is the newly-crowned #24 – a career-best for her – and the reigning WTA Linz champion. She is 15-8 and has racked up an impressive ~$420,000 in prize money.

Rising to the occasion in Linz, she beat Jule Niemeier, Anna-Lena Friedsam, Marketa Vondrousova, and Petra Martic to win her second WTA title.

Post that, Potapova recorded a couple of early defeats in Austin and Indian Wells – respectively, to Katie Volynets and Jessica Pegula. She did bounce back, however, in style, in Miami with a brilliant quarterfinal showing.

En route to the final eight (with a bye into round two), Anastasia dismissed Marta Kostyuk, Coco Gauff, and Qinwen Zheng.

Looking at her clay form, she has some rhythm considering she was 18-7 in 2022 – including her title run in Istanbul.

Martic in a Bleak Form

Petra Martic is set to start in Stuttgart with little momentum; her record is 8-8 in 2023 – supported largely by her runner-up feat in Linz.

It was a commendable feat by all means, as she dispatched Clara Tauson and Maria Sakkari in the final few rounds.

Since then, however, the Croat fell in the first round in Dubai and Indian Wells and the third round in Miami. The losses came against players of all ranks – Yulia Putintseva, Varvara Gracheva, and Elise Mertens.

All things considered, she is the current #32 and fairly more experienced than Potapova. She has five finals on clay – three singles, two doubles – along with reaching the quarters in Paris Slam and the semis in the Italian Open.

Potapova v Martic Prediction and Tip

By the looks of it, Potapova should win this one again but let us not forget that this is on clay – where Martic may be arguably better. This may prove to be quite a test for both players, which means we are looking at a good number of games.
