Paula Badosa v Cristina Bucsa Head to Head

It is 2-0 to Badosa; they last met in 2019 in an ITF tournament semifinal, where Paula won in straight sets.

Badosa Upsets Kasatkina

Badosa started strong in Stuttgart with an emphatic 6-1, 6-1 win over Daria Kasatkina in the opener. The match lasted for little over an hour and saw the Spaniard dominate in style, winning an impressive 75% of the points behind the first serve.

With that, she has improved her record for the season to 10-5 following a mundane start to the season. That said, her recent quarterfinal showing in the Charleston Open does help her case a great deal.

Badosa dismissed Mayar Sherif, Leylah Fernandez, and Diana Shnaider in straight sets before bowing out Jessica Pegula. Before that, the current #31 (former world number 2) fell to Elena Rybakina in Indian Wells and Miami Open in the third round.

Her other notable season result came in Adelaide, where she was a semifinalist.

Paula has done well on clay courts historically, and given her experience, she should be confident of another good run.

Bucsa Survives Korpatsch

Cristina Bucsa, currently ranked #77, started in the Stuttgart Open as a qualifier. Over the weekend, she moved past Noma Akugue Noha and Katie Volynets with some resistance to make it to the main draw.

In the opener, she met Germany’s Tamara Korpatsch and beat her 3-6, 6-4, 6-0 in a little under two and a half hours.

Bucsa is also playing in doubles but lost her opening match on Tuesday.

Looking at her overall season, she is now 12-7, but many of those wins have come in the qualifying rounds. Her best showing was at the Australian Open, where she cleared the three qualifying matches and beat Eva Lys and Bianca Andreescu to reach the third round (loss to Iga Swiatek 0-6, 1-6).

Her clay record and overall form do not exactly inspire confidence, which means she will need to up her game significantly against Badosa.

Badosa v Bucsa Predictions & Tip

This match is Badosa’s to lose; she is coming off a good run on clay and has a fair bit of momentum in her game. Expect her to win this one comfortably.
