Caroline Garcia v Tatjana Maria Head to Head

It is 2-0 to Badosa; they last met in 2019 in an ITF tournament semifinal, where Paula won in straight sets.

Garcia in a Menacing Form

Caroline Garcia, seeded four in Stuttgart, is one of the players to watch. She has had a spectacular season, boasting a tally of 17-8 and a singles ranking of #5.

Admittedly, she hit a rough patch in the United States last month as she fell to Sorana Cirstea in Indian Wells and Miami early in the tournament. However, her runner-up feats in Lyon and Monterrey did serve as a buffer to keep her afloat in the top 10.

Even then, Garcia has fallen to many unusual suspects this year – namely Alycia Parks, Magda Linette (round four in the Australian Open), and Cirstea. She also went through something similar last year, which means Maria has a precedent to follow.

But following through on it is another story, given Caro’s impeccable experience, form, and pedigree. A two-time French Open doubles winner, reigning WTA Finals and Cincinnati Open champion, and the 2022 tally of 46-20 – this is certainly tricky to match for any player.

Maria Passes In-Albon Test

Tatjana Maria found herself in quite an opening match in Stuttgart against Switzerland’s Ylena In-Albon. In a match that lasted for over two and a half hours, the German had to fight hard to win 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(4). She could have closed the game earlier when she had two match points, but Ylena put up solid resistance, taking it all the way to the tie-break.

It is a well-deserved win for Tatjana, who is now 19-10 this year.

Most recently, she defended her title from the Copa Colsanitas – a feat that also helped her build some clay traction ahead of the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix. In addition, she bagged the title from ITF Pune in January.

In other big events, however, her form has been bleak. Tatjana lost early in Monterrey, Indian Wells, and Miami – which is why she is ranked #71 despite a good year.

Nonetheless, the 35-year-old displays passion, skill, and endurance as she navigates another season. As the more experienced player, she should approach this match with a fair amount of confidence.

Garcia v Maria Predictions & Tip

Garcia is the odds-on favourite, but it may not be an easy match for her. With a day of rest, Maria should be well recharged, ready to take on the Frenchwoman and give her a fight. We may be looking at another three-setter here.
