Lajovic Stuns Djokovic

World No. 70 Dusan Lajovic recorded one of the biggest wins of his career on Friday when beat the World No. 1 Novak Djokovic 6-4, 7-6(6). It was an impressive match, to say the least, as the Serbian saved 15 of 16 break points and three set points in the tie-break to come back and seal the deal.

The 32-year-old is on cloud nine and will hope to keep that run going all the way through. His record has also now improved to 15-10 in 2023.

His other victories in Banja Luka came against Filip Krajinovic and Gregorie Barrere.

Lajovic’s previous best results came in the Latin American swing, where he reached the quarterfinal in Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago. Most recently, he competed in the Monte Carlo Masters but lost in the first round to Alexei Popyrin.

As a runner-up in the Moncao event in 2019, Dusan has some pedigree and experience to tap into – but will that be enough against Kecmanovic?

Kecmanovic in Decent Form

23-year-old Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic has had a fine year so far. He is 13-10 but looks well on track to make up for it on clay.

Now ranked World No. 33, the youngster defeated Abedallah Shelbayh and Jiri Lehecka in straight sets to reach his third semifinal of the season. The number four seed was a runner-up in Delray Beach Open and ATP Estoril.

However, between those events, Miomir did face his fair share of early exits – notably in Miami, Indian Wells, and Acapulco. In fact, he endured a slow start to the year as went through the first few weeks bagging only three wins and four losses.

Even in Monte-Carlo, Kecmanovic had to settle for an early loss against Lorenzo Musetti.

Kecmanovic v Lajovic Prediction and Tip

Lajovic has the experience and confidence, while Kecmanovic has the benefit of youth on his side. Moreover, the youngster has been hard at work this season playing plenty of tennis – and that should give him some edge in the semifinal.
