Holger Rune extended his unbeaten run in Munich to 7-0 as he knocked out Cristian Garin in the quarterfinal of the tournament on Friday.
The top seed, who won the title on his debut last year, broke the world no. 86 twice in the first set and twice in the second while getting broken just once in the match for a 6-2, 6-4 victory in an hour and 31 minutes.
The world no. 7 had begun his campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Yannick Hanfmann in the second round.
Playing in his fourth semifinal of the season, Rune will be hoping to reach a second straight final in 2023. He had made it to the final in Monte-Carlo but lost the title clash to Andrey Rublev in a closely contested three-setter.
Rune is aiming to reach a seventh career final. He is 3-3 from his six previous finals.

O’Connell Into Second Tour level Semifinal
After stalling Alexander Zverev’s progress in his home tournament on Thursday, Christopher O’Connell edged out Flavio Cobolli in a three-set quarterfinal on Friday.
The Australian, ranked no. 82, saved 4 of 11 break points and converted 4 of 12 to beat the world no. 208, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3.
O’Connell, who was a semifinalist in the Split Challenger last week, will be playing in his second tour level semifinal on Saturday, with hopes of causing a surprise and reaching a maiden tour level final.
O’Connell is 16-13 across levels this season and 8-7 on the tour. He was playing in his third tour quarterfinal of the season on Friday, having also reached the last eight in Doha and Marrakech.
In Munich, O’Connell began with a straight sets win over Ugo Humbert in the first round and then stunned the third seed Zverev in straight sets in the second round.
