Elisabetta Cocciaretto v Lauren Davis Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Cocciaretto and Davis have won one apiece. Both were played in hardcourt competitions with Davis winning their most recent meeting at the Hobart International earlier this year.

Cocciaretto Solid on Clay

Cocciaretto hasn’t featured in too many tennis tournaments outside of clay in her career and even when she has, her performances haven’t been extraordinary.

On clay, however, the Italian player has made a bit of a mark and this time around will be aiming to win her first ever match at the Italian Open.

Having played in the previous editions of this tournament, Cocciaretto has been bundled out in the first round every single time. She starts off against a player who has a better record on other surfaces and add that to Cocciaretto’s own form this year, the Italian could hold the edge.

Cocciaretto is 6-1 on clay for the season, having won the title at the San Luis Potosi and made the second round of the Madrid Open where she lost to Paula Badosa in a fighting three-setter.

Davis Breaks Poor Run at Reus

After suffering back to back opening round defeats on clay, Davis opted to play in the Reus Open last week, a tournament that’s a part of the WTA 125 series.

Davis did a lot better there, winning three rounds to make it to the semifinal.

Victories over Julia Grabher, Viktoriya Tomova and Camila Osorio would have given her oodles of confidence after she had fallen in the first round at both Charleston and Madrid. At the former, she lost to the little-known Katherine Sebov before Sorana Cirstea defeated her at the latter.

Cirstea would later go on to end her run at Reus too and the question now is whether she can use that momentum in her opener at the Rome Open where she starts off a distant second-favourite?

Cocciaretto v Davis Prediction and Tip

Cocciaretto will hold the edge given her overall experience on this surface. Expecting this to go into a third set.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Cocciaretto to win: 4/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
