Badosa Showing Form on Clay

Having struggled through most initial part of this season after having finished the previous season on a low too, Badosa looks to have gained some traction on clay.

She has played in three tournaments on the red dirt this season and won three rounds at Charleston and two apiece in Stuttgart and Madrid. This has also included wins over Daria Kasatkina at the Stuttgart Open and Cori Gauff in Madrid.

While Badosa has managed to bring some of her form back, she is still a fair bit away from playing like the world number two she was last season.

As a result, Badosa still runs the risk of those early losses. Starting here against a qualifier ranked outside the top 80 should actually help start things off positively but Badosa will hope to be careful.

Friedsam Aided by Qualifying Draw

Friedsam faced players ranked outside the top 110 in the Rome Open qualifiers and that meant she was able to ease her way past those two and make the main draw.

Things won’t remain as easy for Friedsam obviously as she takes on a player ranked 35th in the world. Not as easy as they were against Moyuka Uchijima and Simona Waltert in the qualifiers for sure.

Earlier this season, Friedsam had made the main draw of the Charleston Open too in similar fashion but lost to Varvara Gracheva in her opener. And then at the Madrid Open, she failed to make it through the qualifiers either.

Overall, however, Friedsam is no pushover on clay and if she gets an opportunity, the German could prove to be a difficult match for her more-fancied opponent.

Badosa v Friedsam Prediction and Tip

Badosa will be a favourite here with Friedsam expected to make it difficult in one of the two sets at the very least.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Badosa to win: 2/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
