Kudermetova High on Confidence

No. 11 seed Veronika Kudermetova will be high on confidence as she prepares for her fourth main draw appearance in Rome.

The Russian is coming off a fantastic run in Madrid, where she knocked out Daria Kasatkina and Jessica Pegula en route the semifinals. She was eventually beaten by Iga Swiatek in the final four stage.

Kudermetova is 14-10 overall this year and she also made it to the semifinals in Adelaide-2 and Doha this year and was a quarterfinalist in Adelaide-1.

While she is the defending doubles champion in Rome, she doesn’t have a great singles record in the tournament, having lost out in the first rounds in 2020 and 2022 and having only made it to the third round in 2021.

Kudermetova has been more dominant on hard courts, but interestingly her only WTA title came on clay in Charleston in 2021. She has played in a total of five finals but has lost four of them.

The Russian will be hoping to build on the Madrid run in Rome.
