Aryna Sabalenka v Sofia Kenin Head to Head

They have faced off twice before this and Sabalenka has won both times. Both matches came in 2018 and neither were on clay.

Sabalenka Returns after Stunning Madrid Performance

Sabalenka has upped the ante on her performances on clay and that has been on display in conjunction with her superlative display in hardcourt competitions anyway.

She had started things off on the red dirt with a final appearance at the Stuttgart Open before Iga Swiatek eased her way to a win over her in that title-decider.

At the Madrid Open, however, Sabalenka didn’t hold back and gained sweet revenge by overcoming Swiatek in the final. She had earlier eased past Maria Sakkari in the semifinal as well to further reduce the points margin between herself and the Polish number one.

Sabalenka enters this tournament having made the semifinal here last season. Interestingly, she had gone down to Swiatek in that match in 2022 too, winning just three games in the process.

It speaks volumes of how much further has the world number two come since then.

Kenin Scrapes Past Bucsa

Kenin was expected to come through in her first round match but Cristina Bucsa gave her a good working over before bowing out in three sets.

In an opener that lasted over three hours, Kenin managed to carve out a 6-3, 6-7 (8), 7-5 win.

Both players had their chances, especially because of the serving issues both faced. A total of 11 breaks of serves punctuated the encounter with Kenin gaining seven of them including four in the very first set.

The American had come into this match on the back of a 1-2 win-loss record on clay this season and 9-10 overall as she slowly attempts an ascent back into the top 100 of the WTA Rankings chart.

Overcoming Sabalenka, however, seems to be a bridge too far at the moment for Kenin.

Sabalenka v Kenin Prediction and Tip

Sabalenka is a huge favourite at 1/10 and we think she wouldn’t have too many difficulties in this, winning in two.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sabalenka to win: 1/2
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
