Rublev Holds Off Davidovich Fokina

Sixth seed Andrey Rublev held off 27th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in a one-hour-and-51-minute third-round contest on Monday to extend his perfect record against the Spaniard to 3-0.

Rublev saved three set points in the first set tiebreak as he came back from 3-6 down to seal the tiebreak 10-8. With the first set in the bag, Rublev began the second set well, breaking Davidovich Fokina early and taking a 3-0 lead. He held on to that lead for the rest of the set to claim the contest 7-6 (10-8), 6-3.

With the win, Rublev, who had beaten Alex Molcan in straight sets in the first round, improved his season record to 25-10.

And he is 12-2 on clay, having captured his first ATP 1000 title in Monte-Carlo and finished runner-up in Banja Luka. A 13-time winner from 20 finals, Rublev also featured in the Dubai final this year, but went down to Daniil Medvedev in the title clash.

Another win on Tuesday will take Rubev into the quarterfinals in Rome for the second time in his career.

Hanfmann Remains Solid

World no. 101 Yannick Hanfmann ousted local hope Marco Cecchinato in a three-set contest on Monday to move into the fourth round of a Masters 1000 tournament for the first time in his career.

The German had made his third round debut in the last tournament in Madrid but has gone a step ahead in Rome.

Hanfmann, who qualified for the main draw with straight set victories over Julian Ocleppo and Hugo Grenier respectively, had won the first two rounds in straight sets as well.

First it was Nicolas Jarry, who went down 6-4, 6-4 and then it was the ninth seed Taylore Fritz, who was stunned by Hanfmann 6-4, 6-1.

An opponent was finally able to get a set of the German this week, when Cecchinato won the second set with a single break. Hanfman, who had taken the first with a solitary break, then dominated the final set. He built a5-2 lead with two breaks, saw the Italian pull one break back, but he broke for a third time in the set in the next game to claim a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory in two hours and 22 minutes.

Hanfmann is now 27-12 across levels this year and that includes a -8 record on clay.

Rublev v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip
