A day after picking up his 200th tour-level win in three hours and 34 minutes against Thiago Monteiro, Borna Coric registered his 201st win with a straight sets victory against Roberto Carballes Baena.

The 15th seed Coric needed almost two hours less than his second round match to beat the Spaniard 7-6 (7-3), 6-1

Coric had broken early in the first set only to see Carballes Baena cancel out the advantage late in the set. Coric, however, was the dominant one in the tiebreak as he took a one-set-to-love lead.

Following Monday’s win, Coric improved his overall season record to 13-10 and he is now 6-3 on clay.

The 26-year-old struck 30 winners, 13 more than Carballes Baena; he also converted 3 of 8 break points and saved 4 of 5.

He has featured in at least three quarterfinals this year, can he reach a fourth with a win on Tuesday?

Marozsan Stuns Alcaraz

Fabian Marozsan’s fairy tale run continued as the Hungarian pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the season by ousting the in-form Carlos Alcaraz in the third round.

Marozsan won 78% points on his first delivery, and struck 30 winners (15 more than the Spaniard) for a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) victory.

This is the first time this year that Alcaraz has been sent packing before the semifinal stage. He had reached 5 finals from his six tournaments this season and had come to Rome having won back-to-back titles in Barcelona and Madrid.

But his 12-match win streak ended with Marozsan stamping his authority in the contest.

The unheralded Hungarian is making his main draw debut in Rome and has already made a huge impact.
