Iga Swiatek v Elena Rybakina Head to Head

Rybakina leads the rivalry 2-1. While Swiatek won their first meeting in Ostrava in 2021, they met twice this year and Rybakina won both of those matches.

The Kazakh’s first win over the world no. 1 came in the fourth round of the Australian Open and her second came in the semifinal in Indian Wells.

Swiatek Eases Into the Last Eight

Two-time defending champion Iga Swiatek extended her Rome streak to 14 matches as the Pole knocked out 21st seed Donna Vekić in straight sets in the fourth round on Tuesday.

The world no. 1 saved 6 of 7 break points and converted 3 of 3 for a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Croatian. Swiatek has reached the quarterfinal of the tournament without dropping a set.

She began her campaign by double bageling Anastasia Pavlyuchankova in the second round and then ousted Ukraine’s Lesia Tsurenko 6-2, 6-0 in the third round.

Swiatek improved to 12-1 on clay this year. She was the champion in Stuttgart and finished runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid. She held a 16-4 record on hard courts in the first quarter of the year, which included a title success in Doha and a runner-up finish in Dubai.

Can the Pole reach a sixth semifinal of the season with a win on Wednesday?

Rybakina Cruises Past Vondrousova

Seventh seed Elena Rybakina reached the quarterfinals in Rome for the first time in her third attempt after the Kazakh cruised past the Czech Republic’s Marketa Vondrousova in straight sets on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old world no. 6 was broken by the left-hander in the first game of the match but she recovered quickly and broke Vondrousova twice before holding on to take the first set.

In the second, Rybakina got off to a flying start, building a 4-0 lead. The Czech pulled one break back, but Rubakina din’t allow the momentum to shift completely and she broke Vondrousova for the third time in the last game to complete a 6-3, 6-3 victory.

The Kazakh had begun her 2023 Rome campaign with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Jasmine Paolini in the second round and moved past Anna Kalinskaya in the third round after the latter withdrew from the contest while trailing 3-4.

Rybakina was excellent in hard courts this year, winning the title in Indian Wells and finishing runner-up at the Australian and the Miami Opens. But the Kazakh has not been able to replicate that form on clay, where she is 4-2 so far.

Swiatek v Rybakina Prediction and Tip

Rybakina was dominant over Swiatek in her two wins this year and that will give her a lot of confidence going into this match, but Swiatek has been in terrific form on clay this season and she should get her first win over the Kazakh in 2023 on Wednesday.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Swiatek to win: 1/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
