Trevisan Has Been Inconsistent This Year

World no. 18 Martina Trevisan hasn’t been too consistent this year, but she will be hoping to make a good start in Rabat, where she won her maiden WTA title last year.

The 29-year-old Italian, who was a semifinalist at the French Open last year, had beaten Claire Liu in the final to claim the Rabat title.

This year, Trevisan brings a 9-12 season record into the tournament. The left-hander’s best performance this season was a quarterfinal finish in Miami.

On clay, she is 2-3 this season. While she lost in the first round in Stuttgart and Rome, she made it to the round of 16 in Madrid, winning her second and third round matches after receiving a first round bye.

Trevisan is at her best on clay courts. In addition to her only WTA title, she has won all 10 of her ITF titles on clay.

Parrizas-Diaz Seeks Consistency at the Top Level

World no. 80 Nuria Parrizas-Diaz was a quarterfinalist in Rabat on her debut last year, going down fighting to Lucia Bronzetti in three sets.

This year, the Spaniard comes into the tournament with a 20-13 overall record and a 9-5 record on clay.

While most of her wins have come in qualifying rounds and in lower level tournaments, she will be happy that she has accumulated more wins than losses.

Parrizas Diaz’s best result at the tour level this year was a third round finish at the Australian Open. She has struggled to win consecutive main draw matches in any of the other tour level tournaments.

In fact, other than the Australian Open, she had won consecutive main draw matches only in WTA 125 in Reus.

Can she cause an upset in the first round?
