Sherif Brings Good Form to Rabat

After suffering a round of 16 defeat on her debut last year, third seed Mayar Sherif will be hoping for an improved performance in Rabat this year.

The Egyptian was not off to a great start in 2023, but has found form on clay. She made it to her maiden WTA 1000 quarterfinal in Madrid and also featured in the semifinals in ITF Oeiras.

But it was her performance in Madrid that caught the eye this season. Sherif ousted world no. 5 Caroline Garcia en route the last eight. It was her second top 10 win of her career, with her first coming against Maria Sakkari in the Emilia-Romagna final last year. It remains her only WTA title.

She has won four WTA Challenger finals though, all of them on clay courts.

Sherif, the world no. 43, is 11-12 overall and 7-4 on clay this year. She will be hoping to improve that record further with an impressive run in Rabat.

Baindl Off to a Tough Start

It has been a year of struggle for Kateryna Baindl so far. The Ukrainian had a promising start when she reached the third round of a major for the first time in her career at the Australian Open.

But she has not reached the main draw of another tournament.

In fact Baindl has not played at all since losing in the first round of the WTA 125 in San Luis Potosi in March.

In the other tournaments that she has played in, Baindl lost in the first round of the ITF Canberra Open and was defeated in the qualifying rounds in Hobart, Lyon and Linz.

Overall she has a 3-6 record, across levels, and it will be a challenge for her on her return to court after almost two months.

Sherif v Baindl Prediction and Tip

Sherif is in terrific form at the moment. She also has a perfect record against the Ukrainian and she is expected to extend that record to 4-0.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Sherif to win: 1/6
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 18.5 games in the match: 4/5
