There has been one previous meeting and that came in the qualifiers of the 2021 Mallorca Open. Carballes Baena won that easily.

Carballes Baena Showing Marrakesh No Fluke

While Carballes Baena would have liked to do better than he did in Madrid and Rome, he would also come into this tournament knowing he was up against some of the best players in the world in those two tournaments.

Let’s rewind that a little though.

Carballes Baena had earlier won his first ATP title in five years when he clinched the tournament in Marrakaesh before getting shocked in Munich in the first round. This led to question-marks if the Marrakesh showing was a bit of a fluke but Carballes Baena then did his bit in the two Masters tournaments that followed.

At Madrid, the Spaniard made the second round with a win over David Goffin.

And in Rome, Carballes Baena sent Hugo Dellien and Dan Evans packing before Borna Coric got the better of him.

He will hope to continue a similar run here.

Rincón Stuns Monteiro in the Qualifiers

A 2021 US Open boys’ singles title title-holder and a finalist at the 2021 Wimbledon Boys’ Doubles, Rincon will now hope to make a mark at the highest level. He had earlier made his main draw debut in Barcelona where he won a wild-card but was defeated in the very first round by Jason Kubler.

Rincon enters his second ATP tournament main draw but this time around it’s on his own strengths, having made it to the first round on the back of a couple of qualifying victories.

While he was expected to come through against Salvatore Caruso, Rincon then stunned Thiago Monteiro from being a set down despite starting out at 3/1 odds in that encounter.

Can he make things difficult for his fellow countryman here? His overall clay court record of 54-36 – spread across Futures and Challengers events – seems to suggest he won’t be a pushover here.

Carballes Baena v Rincón Prediction and Tip

While Carballes Baena has done enough in recent times to suggest he will be a heavy favourite, Rincon could make things difficult for him. Expecting a three-setter here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Carballes Baena to win: 1/4
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
