Teichmann Gets Much Needed Win

Teichmann reached the fourth round of the French Open last year, but her form coming into the tournament this time round has not suggested that a repeat could be on the cards, with a series of first round defeats behind her.

It was, therefore, important for her own morale to make a winning start in Strasbourg, even though she did not find it plain sailing by any means against the world number 88, Maryna Zanevska of Belgium.

Indeed, it was Zanevska who made the better start, one break of serve enough to earn her the first set.

When Teichmann dropped her serve at the start of the second set, she may have feared the worst, but she hit back with a break of her own straight away, and then broke once more, enabling her to level the match.

She then took a four love lead in the third set, and, although Zanevska recovered one of the drop serves, the Swiss was able to see out the match and claim a much needed victory.

Navarro Brushes Aside Czech Challenge

Navarro will be hoping to make her senior debut in Paris next week, but she has good memories of the French Open from her junior days, winning the girls’ doubles there in 2019, and finishing runner-up in the singles the same year.

Most of her success so far this year has come on the ITF tour, where she has appeared in three finals, winning two of them, most recently on clay in Charleston last month.

Playing on the main tour is still a relative novelty for the American, but she showed no signs of nerves in her first round defeat of the world number 91, Tereza Martincova of the Czech Republic.

Two breaks of serve put the American in charge of the first set, and, although Martincova recovered one of them, she was broken once more as Navarro wrapped up the set.

The pair swapped breaks twice in the second set, but then Martincova was broken once more for what proved to be the final and decisive time. The Czech put up a fight, and had three break back points saved, but Navarro was able to get the job done with her third match points.

Teichmann v Navarro Prediction and Tip

Teichmann has been struggling for form of late, but she is the more experienced of the pair at this level, and, if she can find her best form, should be too strong for the American.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Teichmann to win 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 10/11
