Medvedev a Sudden Contender on Clay?

Medvedev and clay used to be the polar opposite of a match made in heaven. For all that Medvedev did in hardcourt competitions, his performances on clay were so bad that it had become a bit of a joke, both for others on tour and his own self.

That is till the start of this season.

It finally looks like Medvedev has begun to take things more seriously on the red dirt and that has shown in his results.

The world number two first surprised Alexander Zverev in Monte-Carlo and then made the fourth round of the Madrid Masters as well. Not the best results but far better than what Medvedev had managed on clay before.

And then at the Rome Masters, Medvedev came into his own with a showing to remember.

Zverev was sent packing in straight sets, before he defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune in successive matches to clinch his first ever title on clay.

Can he become the surprise package of this year’s French Open too?

Seyboth Wild Finally Makes it to the Main Draw Here

It looked like Seyboth Wild’s career was taking off when he won his maiden ATP title in Santiago in 2020 and he jumped up to a career-best ranking of 106th in the world.

Things haven’t gone his way since then as the Brazilian plunged to 417th on the ATP Rankings last season.

It’s only this season that Seyboth Wild has begun to turn things around again but at the lower level. He has already won a couple of Challenger titles and has a 36-10 win-loss record that has seen him rise from 417th to his current 172nd.

What’s interesting to see is all of these matches have come on clay with Seyboth Wild playing to his strength – his career record outside of clay is 20-27 even on the lower circuits.

Here at the French Open, Seyboth Wild overcame Antoine Bellier, Ricardas Berankis and Dominik Koepfer to make it to the main draw.

Medvedev v Seyboth Wild Prediction and Tip

Medvedev might have won the Rome Masters title but he will be wary of a banana peel of an opening round match like this. Expecting the Russian to come through but not before getting tested.

Tips:

  • High Risk Tip: Medvedev to win AND Both players to win a set: 6/4
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 30.5 games in the match: 10/11
