Alycia Parks v Lucia Bronzetti Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, in qualifying for Guadalajara last year on hard courts, Bronzetti winning in straight sets.

Parks Fine Tuning Her Clay Court Game

Parks won her maiden WTA title earlier this year in Lyon, although that was on a hard court.

She will make her main draw debut in Paris next week, having lost in the first round of qualifying last year, and this tournament represents her last chance of honing her clay court game.

Her campaign in Rabat began with a match against the qualifier Anastasia Tikhonova, and, although she beat her in straight sets, her victory against the world number 236 was not all plain sailing, and needed a 14 point tie break in the second set before the job was done.

Kamila Rakhimova, her next opponent, proved less tricky, although the first set remained on serve, until the twelfth game when the American forced the decisive break that enabled her to claim the advantage.

Parks then raced into a five game lead in the second set, before Rakhimova finally held serve again. But Parks duly served out next game.

Bronzetti Beats Fifth Seed After a Marathon

Bronzetti had eased into the second round after a straight sets defeat of the Swede Rebecca Peterson.

The Italian would have been glad not to have been over-taxed in that encounter because, as it turned out, she would need all her energy for her next match against the number five seed, Tatjana Maria of Germany.

The first set established the tone for what was to come. The pair had each seen break points saved, before Maria was the first to drop her serve.

Bronzetti then had two set points, could not make either of them count, and, in the end, it was the German who broke back.

However, the German faltered in the subsequent tie-break and Bronzetti claimed the first set.

The second set was equally tight, with four breaks shared between the two. This time, though, it was Bronzetti who blinked, enabling Maria to break her again and take the match to a third set.

Bronzetti won the first three games of the third set, but her advantage was soon wiped out, and, when Maria went a break up, Bronzetti must have feared the worst.

But she summoned the inner resolve to break back, and then, with Maria serving to stay in the match, found the inspiration to break her to love.

They had spent nearly three hours on court.

Parks v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip

Although Parks is the seed, and the higher ranked player, clay is not her favourite surface, whereas, for Bronzetti, playing on it is second nature. That swings the odds in favour of the Italian.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Bronzetti to win: 14/19
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 19/20
