Fritz Hoping to Better French Open Record

Once, in the recent past, ranked fifth in the world and now ninth on the ATP Rankings, Fritz has done well over the past 24 months or so on the circuit.

Unfortunately for him, his record on clay has been as exemplary and it’s only earlier this season he made it to his first ever semifinal of a Masters 1000 event on clay.

At the time of writing, Fritz will also feature in the semifinal of the Geneva Open, the final clay court tune-up event before the French Open, having routed Ilya Ivashka in the previous match.

He was a semifinalist at the Munich Open and made the fourth round of the Madrid Masters but as if to prove his struggles on clay were not fully gone, Fritz also lost his opener in Rome. Going down to Yannick Hanfmann wasn’t something he would have expected.

Fritz will hope to kick things off with a solid showing in the first round and improve on his previous best of a third round appearance at Roland Garros soon after.

Having made the third round at the Australian Open as a qualifier who defeated Alexander Zverev, Mmoh also managed a quarterfinal appearance at the Delray Beach Open later in February.

What that meant was he shot up to 82nd in the world, his career-best ranking, having been as low as 271st nearly a year before that.

Unfortunately for Mmoh, he hasn’t been able to take to court since the first week of March and that has meant his ranking has fallen to outside the top 120. Add to this the fact that Mmoh’s record on clay has been anything but exemplary, with the American having won just one career match on this surface before this.

All of this points to a big struggle for Mmoh on his return in this opener.

Fritz v Mmoh Prediction and Tip
