Nuria Parrizas-Diaz v Storm Hunter Head to Head

There has been one previous meeting between these two which came on the hard courts of Prague in 2021 and Storm had won that one.

She was once ranked 45th in the world but in more recent times Parrizas-Diaz has been struggling to maintain that sort of form.

So much so that she starts off this competition at her season low ranking of 93rd in the world, having never been this low on the WTA charts since September 2021.

In fact after the 2021 US Open, Parrizas-Diaz hit 88th on the WTA Rankings, ended the season ranked 66th before making it to 45th in the world exactly a year ago. Unfortunately a string of poor results after that have pulled her back majorly.

This year itself, Parrizas-Diaz has featured in a plethora of clay court competitions to get herself ready for the French Open but has won a mere two main draw matches at the highest level.

While she will be up against a 202nd-ranked qualifier, Parrizas-Diaz will know she has her work out cut out here.

Hunter Qualifies for the French Open

Hunter is in the main draw of the French Open for only the second time in her career and she will hope the result is better this time than it was in 2021.

She had then been sent packing easily in the first round by Elise Mertens and while she has gone on to play in three more editions of Grand Slam tennis, the Aussie is yet to win a match.

What’s interesting to note is Hunter’s not as proficient on clay as she has been on other surfaces but it’s been different this year. She has played eight matches on dirt in 2023 – none of which have come at the highest level yet – and has won seven of those matches.

This includes a quarterfinal entry at the Charleston ITF competition as a qualifier and now three wins in the qualifying rounds at the French Open.

Which is why there’s probably not much to choose between these two players here.

Parrizas-Diaz is a favourite and we might have to back here given her opponent’s overall clay court showing but only just. Might see a third set here.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Parrizas-Diaz to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/5
