Zverev Shrugs off Slow Start against Harris

Lloyd Harris fallen to 294th in the world and he wasn’t expected to put up up much of a fighting as he took on former Grand Slam finalist Zverev in his opener. But it was probably a case of a nervous Zverev returning to the venue where he suffered that horrific injury last season as the German made a slow start to the match.

In the end, Zverev came through in two hours and 40 minutes, winning 7-6 (6), 7-6 (0), 6-0 with Harris losing steam towards the end of the second start.

It was Harris who called the shots in the first set as he earned himself three break-points but failed to convert them. Zverev didn’t come anywhere close to breaking his opponent and even as Harris continued to make things difficult in the tie-breaker, the German found a way to win the set off his third set-point.

The second set saw Harris miss out on two set-points on Zverev’s serve at 5-4 and then had the German missing out on a chance to serve it out at 6-5. Fortunately for Zverev, he scythed through his opponent’s serve in the ensuing tie-breaker before breaking him three times in the third to seal his second round berth.

Zverev shouldn’t have a lot of difficulties in round two either.

Molcan Sends Gaston Home

Molcan has had a steady season of clay court tennis even as his ranking has hit a season low of 86th on the ATP charts coming into this French Open.

A semifinalist at the Banja Luka Open and second round appearances at both, the Madrid and Rome Masters have allowed Molcan a chance to come into this season’s second Grand Slam with some confidence under his belt.

And that’s what was on display in his opening round win against Hugo Gaston.

Molcan was tested for a while in the second set but in the end needed just two hours and 25 minutes to seal a second successive second round berth at the French Open.

He won 6-1, 7-6 (4), 6-4 against Gaston despite dropping his serve four times in the encounter. After breezing through the first set, Molcan failed to get past the sticky Gaston as the Frenchman broke back twice to push the set into a tie-breaker.

Once Molcan had won that though there wasn’t too much looking back as he easily quelled his challenge in the third set despite, again, losing his serve twice.

Can he put up a showing against Zverev?

Zverev v Molcan Prediction and Tip

Zverev holds the aces in this again but it must be quickly added he hasn’t been at his best and even though we think we think he will win this, it might not be straightforward.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Over 8.5 games in the first set: 4/11
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 34.5 games in the match: 5/6
