Emil Ruusuvouri v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before.

This will be the first match between the 24 year old Finn, and the Bulgarian, who is eight years older.

Ruusuvouri has reached the second round in Paris for the second successive year, but he will have wished that he had not had to battle as he was made to do by Gregoire Dimitrov of France, the world number 53.

All that seemed unlikely when the Finn opened up with two successive breaks, enabling him to take the first set without undue difficulty.

When Barrere fell a break down in the second set, his hopes were fading, But he rallied, broke back and it went to a tie-break which he subsequently won.

Again the Frenchman went an early break down in the third set, and again he recovered it. The difference this time is that he broke the Finn again, to find himself two sets to one up.

The pair swapped breaks at the start of the fourth set, but then Barrere lost the next nine games in a row, by which time not only was the match level, but he was two breaks down in the deciding set.

One of the breaks was recovered and Barrere had two break points to make the match all square again. Ruusuvouri, though, did just enough to fend him off and finally take his place in the second round draw.

With so many seeds either struggling or failing to get beyond the first round, Dimitrov will have been pleased to have progressed without being unduly pushed by the world number 147, Timofey Skatov of Kazakhstan.

The Bulgarian dominated the first set, which he took without the loss of a single game.

Skatov finally made an impression on the match by breaking the Dimitrov serve at the start of the second set, but it did not take long for normal service to be resumed, as far as Dimitrov was concerned, and he reeled off four games in a row to take control of the second set.

After the first four games of the third set were shared, two successive breaks gave Dimitrov the chance to serve for the match.

Ironically, when it was almost too late, Skatov produced his best tennis of the match, saving four match points, and having two break points as well.

In the end, though, Dimitrov made his fifth match point count.

Ruusuvouri v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip

Given that they reached the second round in such contrasting fashions, Dimitrov must be considered the clear favourite for this match. Ruusuvouri will hope that the Bulgarian does not show the same ruthless form he produced against the Kazakh.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Dimitrov to win: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 31.5 games in the match: 5/6
