Ons Jabeur v Bernarda Pera Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two including one on the ITF level on clay. It’s 1-1 on head to head with Jabeur having won the match on clay.

Jabeur Overturns Slow Start against Danilovic

Olga Danilovic came out firing all cylinders in her third round match against the much more fancied Jabeur but it was the experience of the Tunisian player that saw her make it through in the end.

Jabeur won 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a match lasting two hours and 10 minutes to advance to the fourth round of this competition for the third time in her career. She had been beaten in the first round last season.

It was Danilovic who broke first in the eighth game of the first set and while Jabeur immediately broke back, her opponent made it a second break of serve next game to clinch the set.

The two were involved in a break trade yet again in the second set to take them 4-4 before Jabeur got the better of her opponent’s serve in the ninth. A difficult hold followed which gave Jabeur the much-needed equaliser and a boost in confidence.

From that point there was only one winner as Jabeur broke her Serbian opponent twice and ran away with the encounter.

Jabeur had earlier routed Lucia Bronzetti and Oceane Dodin, losing five games apiece in those matches. Can she now make the quarterfinals here for the first time in her career?

Pera Makes it Two Surprises in a Row

In her second round match against Donna Vekic, Pera had been a 23/20 underdog to win. She did that from being a set down.

Here in the third round, Pera started out at 11/10 odds to get past Elisabetta Cocciaretto and again, came away trumps. This time around she did that in straight sets.

Pera did face some challenges throughout her match but found a way out of them each time. Like in the first, she was down a break on three separate occasions and each time she broke right back.

And then she held her serve in ninth game before winning the set with a fourth break of serve in the 10th.

The same script repeated itself in the second when Pera fell 2-0 down, levelled things out at 2-2 before going a break down two more times. She pushed on to take the set to a tie-breaker where she eased to a 6-4, 7-6 (2) win.

Can Pera show a similar verve against Jabeur too?
