Alcaraz Powers Past Musetti

World no. 1 Carlos Alcaraz scored a thumping win over Lorenzo Musetti on Sunday to storm into the quarterfinals of the French Open for the second consecutive year.

While it was expected to be a close affair before the start of the contest, the match turned out to be a one-sided one with Alcaarz tormenting the Italian.

Broken in the very first game of the match, the Spaniard came back strongly, breaking Musetti twice and taking the opening set. He started the second with a break, but Musetti drew level at 2-2. However, Alcaraz won the next four in a row to take a two-sets-to-love lead.

The top seed was dominant in the final set as well, racing to victory by taking the last five games of the match. Alcaraz ousted the 17th seed 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 in two hours and nine minutes.

Alcaraz has been playing like a champion and has dropped just one set en route the quarterfinals. That four-set win came against Taro Daniel in the second round. He had scored straight sets win over Flavio Cobolli in the first round and had demolished Denis Shapovalov 6-1 6-4, 6-2 in the third round.

Overall, the reigning US Open champion is 34-3 this season and 24-2 on clay. He will be looking to keep his perfect record against Stefanos Tsitsipas intact in the quarterfinal and move into the semifinals for the first time at Roland Garros.

Tsitsipas Ousts Ofner

World no. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas needed an hour and 50 minutes to oust Sebastian Ofner in straight sets and end the Austrian qualifiers promising run in the tournament.

The 2021 French Open finalist is into the last eight at Roland Garros for the third time. In addition to his runner-up finish to Novak Djokovic two years ago, he was also a semifinalist in 2020. Can he reach the last four in the clay court major for the third time?

The Greek, who was also a finalist at the Australian Open this year, has been playing at a very high level in the second major as well.

Tsitsipas had beaten Jiri Vesely in four sets in the opening round and has since then won all his matches in straight sets. He defeated Roberto Carballés Baena and Diego Schwartzman in the second and third rounds, but it was his fourth round win over the Austrian which was the quickest of them all.

Tsitsipas won 76% on his first serve. He was broken once by Ofner, but he converted 6 of 11 break points to cruise past the world no. 118.

He has not won a title yet this season, but has been a finalist twice and holds a 17-4 record on clay. Can he get his first won over Alcaraz on Tuesday?
