Golubic leads 1-0, last beating Teichmann in the 2019 Australian Open in straight sets.

Golubic Struggling Greatly

Viktorija Golubic, currently ranked World No. 126, has not had the best of the season so far. With just nine wins and 11 losses, the 30-year-old is on course to deliver one of her worst-performing years in her professional career – unless she can deliver a turnaround in the coming half.

Her notable performance on the WTA Tour came in the Miami Open, where she reached round two as a qualifier. In the French Open recently, she was beaten by Storm Hunter in the opening qualifying match.

Golubic did not compete in the Madrid or Rome WTA 1000 events. Instead, she featured in the ITF Trnava, where she made it to the last eight before losing to Yanina Wickmayer.

It was the same story in ITF Surbiton last week too. After defeating Madison Inglis and Alison Riske-Amritraj, she went down against Katie Boulter.

Teichmann in a Better Boat

Comparatively, Jil Teichmann has had a better season overall, but will that be enough to take her through to the Nottingham Open is anyone’s guess.

She is, at the moment, 14-15, and set to play in her first grass event of the year.

Following her first-round exit at the hands of Sara Errani in the French Open, the 25-year-old participated in a Challenger event in Spain, where she lost to the 151st-ranked Maria Carle in the quarterfinal in three sets.

Like Golubic, Teichmann too has had to make do with early exits in WTA events – except for the Indian Wells Open, where she reached round three after beating Belinda Bencic.

Historically, grass courts have not been Jil’s strong suit, but that may be due to a lack of participation.

Teichmann v Golubic Prediction and Tip

Teichmann looks favourite to win this one, solely on account of the overall momentum she has in 2023. That may not matter much, however if she cannot find her bearings quickly in Nottingham. Golubic has some rhythm on grass, and if she plays her cards right, she may be off to a good start.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Golubic to win: 4/5
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 20.5 games in the match: 5/6
