Alexandrova in Decent Form

World No. 23 Ekaterina Alexandrova is starting in the Libema Open as the defending champion. Last year, she won her first grass title in the city of Den Bosch by beating the World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka in the final 7-5, 6-0.

She has arrived in the city on the back of a mixed season; she is 7-6 on hard courts and 6-5 on clay.

Alexandrova’s last tournament was the French Open, where she fell to Beatriz Haddad Maia in round three. She had made it to the same stage in Madrid while in the Charleston Open, she was a quarterfinalist.

On hard courts, the 28-year-old was in the final eight – which was also her best season result. Apart from this, Ekaterina also featured in round three of the Australian Open.

All in all, it has been a pretty decent year for the Russian, but surely, she would want to take it up a notch in the coming weeks.

Rodina, Seeking Revival

Alexandrova’s compatriot Evgeniya Rodina will start in the Libema Open 2023 with all odds stacked against her.

The 34-year-old, who is the current #324 and former #67, is just 2-4 in 2023. Her best results came in the Sunshine Doubles when she reached round two in Miami and Indian Wells.

That run in Miami was followed by a first-round exit in the Charleston Open against Leylah Fernandez – which was also her last tour event.

Having been out of action for a little over two months now, Rodina is understandably lacking the form and rhythm needed to beat the defending champion.

That said, if there was a time or a place for her to rise, it may very well be on grass. After all, she was 11-4 on the surface in 2018 and 8-2 in 2016.

Alexandrova v Rodina Prediction and Tip

This one is pretty much Alexandrova’s to lose; she has got everything going on for her to win this one with ease, whereas Rodina is completely out of form and traction.

Tips:

  • Low-Risk Tip: Alexandrova to win 2-0: 4/9
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Under 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
